Lowell – The Lowell Waterways Vitality Initiative (Waterways) is pleased to announce the completion of its latest lighting project, the Swamp Locks gatehouse. The lighting of this historic gatehouse, located in the heart of the Hamilton Canal Innovation District, marks the third completed lighting project for Waterways. Previously completed are the John E. Cox Memorial Bridge and Joseph R. Ouellette Bridge.
The Swamp Locks gatehouse has been outfitted with artistic lighting that displays various colors and themes reflecting the seasons throughout the year. Similar to Lowell’s Cox Memorial Bridge, the Swamp Locks will also be lit for special occasions and causes.
The public is invited to join Waterways to “flip the switch” on Friday, April 26th, at approximately 8:00 p.m. Following brief remarks, the lights will be turned on for the first time and display a special celebratory lighting program. Attendees should gather at the Swamp Locks adjacent to 110 Canal Street.
The Swamp Locks gatehouse project would not have been made possible without the cooperation of the City of Lowell, Lowell National Historical Park, and the Massachusetts Department of Conservation.
