State Senator Ed Kennedy’s office released a statement regarding a fall he took at an event earlier this morning.
Kennedy was at Middlesex Community College, along with Senate President Karen Spilka and a number of public officials to announce details of the Senate’s plan for universal free community college tuition.
Unfortunately, Kennedy temporarily became the focus for a few minutes when he fell near the end of the event. Initial reports said he struck his head in the process and that an ambulance was called to the scene.
A source close to Kennedy tells InsideLowell the Senator was taken to the hospital for precautionary reasons by his wife, which was confirmed by an eyewitness on the scene. When contacted for comment, Kennedy’s office issued the following statement:
“At an event at Middlesex Community College in Lowell this morning, Senator Ed Kennedy took a step down, twisting his ankle and subsequently losing his balance while on the stairway outside the school. The senator went to the hospital as a precautionary measure, where he underwent an x-ray which revealed a sprained ankle. Senator Kennedy appreciates the concern expressed from those in attendance and wants everyone to focus on the exciting news of Senate President Spilka’s proposal for free community college being included in the FY25 Senate Budget.”
