DRACUT — Chief Peter Bartlett reports that the Dracut Police Department charged Anthony Segnini, age 36 of Dracut, with animal cruelty in connection with an incident that led to the death of a pet dog.
On Monday, Dec. 11, 2023, Dracut Police were dispatched to a home on Sunset Road for a report of possible animal cruelty.
A resident returned home from work to find her 8-pound Yorkshire Terrier, Seamus unresponsive and covered in blood and feces. The resident took the dog to Wignall Animal Hospital, where it was pronounced dead.
A subsequent investigation by Dracut Police led to a necropsy being performed on the dog, and that procedure led to the discovery of numerous serious injuries to the dog, including broken ribs, collapsed lungs, and a blunt-force trauma injury to the dog’s head.
The investigation identified Segnini, the dog owner’s roommate, as the individual who allegedly caused those injuries to the dog.
Segnini was indicted by a Middlesex County Grand Jury in September, and was arraigned in Middlesex Superior Court on Thursday, Oct. 24.
He was ordered released on personal recognizance and ordered to have no direct or indirect contact with the animal’s owner and residence, no unsupervised contact with the animal residing at the defendant’s residence and to possess no animals.
The next date in this case is Nov. 21, 2024.
These are allegations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty.

He should serve jail time.
It’s time the courts start imposing severe sentences on individuals that inflict such brutal assaults on defenseless pets and hold these mental cases accountable. What a tough guy! He beat a yorkie to death.
He should be put in jail ,cause if not,he’s gone to do it again to any other pet.who knows how many times he done it before but didn’t get caught.
😔😔
Anyone who would do that to an animal WILL DO THE SAME to A CHILD or WOMAN — anybody who is unable to defend themselves.
THROW THE ENTIRE LAWBOOK at him!
