With just five business days remaining to pull papers, and with the July 18th deadline looming to submit signatures to qualify for the ballot, District 2 City Councilor Corey Robinson finally has a challenger.
Marty Hogan, who sought the Centralville neighborhood seat in 2021, made the trek to City Hall late this afternoon and created an election contest for a seat many thought would go uncontested.
Hogan finished third in that 2021 preliminary election, getting edged out by Robert Gignac. Both were well behind Robinson, who garnered 69% of the vote and went on to increase his percentage to 73% in the November general election against Gignac.
“I felt two years ago that we had a chance to have real change and representation for Centralville,” Hogan tells InsideLowell. “But we are in the same, or worse, conditions now and our cost of living and quality of life is still suffering. We need real leadership, not just political rhetoric and members only mentality in City Hall.”
Hogan also came up short in the 2019 preliminary election under the old At-Large system of electing the entire City Council.
Today’s news leaves only District 1 (Pawtucketville) incumbent Dan Rourke and District 3 (Belvidere) Councilor John Leahy as the only incumbents currently running unopposed.
