Inside Megan’s House

Originally published November 18, 2023 as part of a series by Special Contributor and local Philanthropist Ellen Andre focusing on local non-profits

Get to know The Megan House Foundation, another lesser known local nonprofit working to improve the lives of its’ residents and make a difference in the community.  The organization has been in operation since 2015.

Megan’s House is a 28 bed, six-month to one-year residential treatment home.  It is established as a resource for young women ages 18-28, providing treatment and recovery support, and helping save the lives of those struggling with substance use and mental health disease.  The program emphasizes individual dignity, self-respect and empowerment.

A second home known as Erin’s House is an 8 bed sober home providing housing and extended treatment for their graduates.  Support services are provided, and a full-time Recovery Coach is on-site to foster continued recovery and to aid in the navigation of success.  Residents can live at Erin’s House for up to 3 years, with no age restrictions.

Megan’s House takes a holistic approach with residents and provides intensive therapeutic services.  Individualized treatment plans are developed with a licensed clinician addressing each residents’ unique strengths and needs.  Some of the common themes addressed include: dual diagnosis, co-dependency, medication assisted treatment, trauma, losses, prenatal care and reunification with children.

Although the foundation is young, it has proven effective with the development of two thriving, successful programs.  They have 109 graduates from Megan’s House and have served over 300 young women over the past 7 years.  They have 41 that have lived at Erin’s House.

The challenges they face are often changing such as the unexpected pandemic which put restrictions and limits on everything.  They were able to keep things functioning with painstaking effort, much creativity and a dedicated team.

One area they would like to expand is opening a second Success Home.  This would offer safe, affordable, sober housing to women early in recovery and preventing relapse from lack of stability.
