How long has Patrice Bergeron been a force on the hockey stage? Long enough to have left his footprint in the Mill City.
The Boston Bruins Captain announced his retirement today, capping a stellar 19-year NHL career that technically began on October 1, 2003. Along the way, Bergeron helped the Bruins capture a Stanley Cup in 2011 and won a record six Selke Awards, presented to the league’s best defensive forward.
But after Bergeron played 71-games for the Black and Gold during that 2003-2004 season, an NHL lockout the following season forced him to play the 2004-2005 season for the Providence Bruins in the American Hockey League, the same league that featured the Lowell Lock Monsters. Included in that stretch was a playoff series against the now departed Mill City hockey team in which he skated in three games at the then Tsongas Arena.
Bergeron netted a goal and two assists on May 6, 2005, before adding a goal on May 11th. He didn’t notch any points in the May 7 game at the Tsongas.
Hopefully, there are some loyal fans out there who remember those matchups and any regular season games he may have skated in. We’d love you to share those stories here and on our Facebook page!
