Inside Stories

A Patient and Their Family Say Thank You

We are proud to share the story of a remarkable outcome that highlights the power of teamwork, quick action, and collaboration among our local first responders.

Recently, a local resident suddenly went into cardiac arrest while at home with his family. One moment, he was speaking with them and filling his water bottle. The next, he collapsed to the floor, clutching his chest.

Thanks to the swift and coordinated response of emergency personnel, this story has a truly uplifting ending.

The call was first received by Lowell 911 Dispatcher Sean O’Connell, who calmly and expertly guided the patient’s wife through performing CPR while help was on the way. His clear instructions and her courageous actions helped keep the patient alive during those critical first minutes.

Shortly after, a Pridestar Trinity BLS ambulance arrived on scene, with EMTs Billy, Steve, and Olivia (riding third that day), joining forces with Paramedic Unit P100, Lowell Police, and Lowell Fire personnel. Together, they performed multiple rounds of CPR and advanced life support. Through these combined efforts, the patient regained Return of Spontaneous Circulation (ROSC) in the field and was transported to the hospital.

We are thrilled to report that the patient made a full recovery, a testament to the life-saving collaboration and dedication between dispatch, EMS, fire, and police.

“This is a perfect example of what happens when first responders work together toward a shared goal,” said David T. Daly, President and CEO of Pridestar Trinity EMS. “From the dispatcher on the line to the brave actions of the patient’s wife, to the combined efforts of EMS, police, and fire on scene — it was a total team effort. That patient is alive today because of everyone involved.”

Lowell Police Superintendent Greg Hudon added, “The professionalism and compassion shown in this situation are hallmarks of what makes our first responder community so strong. We’re proud to stand shoulder to shoulder with our EMS and fire partners every day, and even more proud when it leads to a life being saved.”

The patient’s family was so grateful by the care and collaboration, they reached out hoping to gather everyone involved to celebrate and personally thank the heroes who made this outcome and recovery possible.

This is more than just a successful call. It’s a story of teamwork, trust, and commitment to community.
