Lowell – Slowly, but surely, the key players making up the Lowell Innovation Network Corridor (LINC) are being revealed. The latest; Bioversity, a leading Massachusetts nonprofit provider of biotech workforce training spun out of MassBio.
Bioversity Executive Director Zach Stanley and MassBio President and CEO Kendalle Burlin O’Connell, will join UMass Lowell Chancellor Julie Chen, other University leaders, elected officials, and local employers this Thursday to announce a new life sciences workforce training partnership that includes a dedicated facility and curriculum.
While a timetable has yet to be publicly released, a University source tells InsideLowell the organization will begin operations at the Wannalancit Mills complex in January 0f 2025.
Earlier this year, UMass Lowell announced the arrival of Draper and Mass General Brigham as the first two links in the $800-million East Campus development that is expected to completely transform the city’s economic climate.
More announcements regarding national players in the Artificial Intelligence, Biotechnology, Space, Cybersecurity and Robotics fields are anticipated in the coming months. LINC is estimated to create more than 2,000 new jobs and bring $4-$6 million in new tax revenue to the Mill City. There is also hope it could spur economic activity elsewhere, including the Hamilton Canal Innovation District.
Through this newest partnership, UMass Lowell and Bioversity will provide comprehensive training and career pathways to underrepresented and low-income residents of Greater Lowell who are looking to start a new career in the life sciences industry.
