Another Member Resigning from Chelmsford Select Board

Less than two months after Erin Drew announced her resignation, InsideLowell has learned that first term Selectman Patrick Maloney is resigning his seat effective Midnight, April 7.

The resignation’s timing coincides with the town’s annual election, which is scheduled for that day. Maloney’s three year term doesn’t expire until 2027, necessitating an the seat being placed on the ballot to fill the void for one more year.

“It’s been an honor to serve the Town of Chelmsford and its residents,” Maloney wrote in his resignation letter to Town Clerk Patricia Dzuris, which was dated January 2. “I am grateful for the opportunity to have worked alongside dedicated colleagues in service to the community.”

The letter does not cite a reason for the decision.

Nomination papers for the town’s annual election became available today, with February 12 being the last day candidates may pull blank nomination papers.

They have until February 17 to return their paperwork to the Board of Registrars.

As of early Monday afternoon, no Chelmsford residents have filed letters with the Clerk’s Office stating their intention to run for a Select Board seat.
