Boomer Athletics Weekly Recap (May 22, 2024)

A huge week in the program with a ton of baseball games across New England and all softball teams in action.  Our baseball program is excited to welcome 30+ teams to Lowell this coming weekend for our Memorial Day Tournament.  Keep an eye out for our tournament preview this Friday!  Here are our top performers from this past week…

9U Baseball

Jackson Brown, Jack Durkin, and Brian Barry provided clutch pitching throughout the weekend as the 9U team capped their weekend with a win over the league wins leader. Quinn Smith swung a hot bat in Sunday’s doubleheader, while Knoxx Seng was a defensive standout all weekend.

Congratulations to 9U Angelo Santiago and 9U David Cespedes who will represent our program in the 9U Select Baseball All-Star Game this week.

10U celebrated their 4-0 record after the games this Sunday

10U Baseball

The Boomer 10s went 4-0 over the weekend. They battled the Maine Lighting Elite Saturday in two tight games. Game 1 ended in a 2-1 win with Thomas Florence (0 runs, 8 strikeouts) going 5 innings strong. Ryder Swett came in to slam the door with a 1 inning save. Emily LeLacheur got the offense going with a bunt single which led to James Kane driving in 2 game deciding runs. Game 2 was another close battle with the home squad pulling out the 5-4 victory. Junior Ventura put the team ahead for good with an RBI double in the 5th. Ventura would ultimately steal home for the game deciding run. Swett chipped in with two hits. Sean Drinkwater had a strong start going 5 innings striking out six. Kane came in to close the game in the final frame.

On Sunday the team traveled north to face the Seacoast Pirates. The bats were hot and the base paths worn as the Boomer squad outscored the opponent 22-2 to take both games. Lucas Ros and Kalel Eang provided some pop and solid defense as well. Jacob Marion, Harry Zahareas, Zahir Rodriguez, and Ventura all pitched well for Lowell.

Congratulations to 10U Jacob Marion and 10U Zahir Rodriguez who will represent our program in the 10U Select Baseball All-Star Game this week.

11U Wes McDonald launched a home run into the trees on Sunday

11U Baseball

Boomer 11U bats stayed hot with a 4-0 weekend against tough division opponents.

Saturday welcomed two close games against the Nor’Easter Stampede including a come from behind walk off win in game 1. After falling behind early. Harry Shea pitched great in relief with 3 innings of shutout baseball.

On Sunday, the team scored a combined 26 runs against Antonelli Baseball. Matthew Rurak and Wes McDonald led the way offensively with a home run each. Game 1 had Aleksi Romanowsky throw a complete game, only letting up 1 run on 4 hits.

The weekend also saw some great defensive performances by Matthew Matos and Emilio Cespedes. Both showed their talent with some amazing diving catches.

Congratulations to 11U Jack Duffy, 11U Matthew Matos and 11U Matthew Rurak who will represent our program in the 11U Select Baseball All-Star Game this week.

12U Baseball

Boomer 12u finished with a strong 4-0 weekend sweep of division opponents Canes and USA Prime Prospects.

Boomer received outstanding pitching performances from Mikey Martinez (Canes Game 1) Tyler Durkin (Canes Game 2) , Owen White (USA Prime Game 1) Bryceson Silva, and Keegan Foley (USA Prime Game 2) leading the way for the purple and black.

Great plate discipline, solid defense, and smart base running game were the keys to victory. Conor McNamara continues to pace the offense with multiple hits and RBIs over the weekend.

Congratulations to 12U Bryceson Silva who will represent our program in the 12U Select Baseball All-Star Game this week.

13U Baseball

13U fell short, losing 6-5 in a tight game to the Coastal Riptide on Saturday. Tim Franks and Deon Hoeun were the offensive standouts collecting 3 hits and 2 hits, respectively. Nate Norman and Dylan LeLacheur were outstanding defensively for the purple and black. Game 2 of the scheduled double header was rained out shortly after first pitch.

14U Baseball

14U Split their doubleheader against the Maine Lightning on Saturday. George Grillakis was the star once again on the hill, throwing 5 innings, allowing no runs on only 3 hits. Melchizedek Vann went 3-3 in game two with two steals. Quinn Conley and Zach Chachus continue to put up tough at bats and hit the ball hard, each going 2-3.

15U Rylan Aylward, 15U Liam White and 15U Fradiel Matos squared off in JV action

15U Baseball

15U was busy on the mound this week. Shawn Hines got things started with 5 innings and 9 Ks in the Lowell Catholic win over Arlington Catholic. Liam White got the start for Phillips Andover in their game with rival Phillips Exeter. Liam gave up three runs over five innings of work in a tight 5-4 loss for Andover.

Three 15U teammates squared off on Saturday as Phillips faced Greater Lowell Tech. Liam White had an RBI single, Fradiel Matos played strong defense at shortstop and pitched a scoreless inning in relief. Rylan Aylward played well defensively at catcher for Greater Lowell. Josh Boucher got the win on the mound for the Lowell High Junior Varsity against North Andover. Josh threw five innings and struck out 11 in the win.

2026 Grad Andrew Reid through a no-hitter with 12Ks vs St. George’s in ISL action this past week

16U Baseball

2026 grad Andrew Reid pitched a 7ip no-hitter including 12Ks for Middlesex Prep versus St. George’s.

2026 Keegan Hunt made his high school debut striking out five across four innings as he got the start for Central Catholic versus St John’s Shrewsbury on Monday.

8U Softball

Elliot Corbin and Shea Duffy were defensive standouts in the 8U Black v Purple game this Friday.

Mackenzie Favreau ended the game with four hits and Stella McCoy provided great defense across the diamond.

10U Zoey Rourke a top performer for Boomer 10U this weekend

10U Softball

10U Softball picked up a win in our most competitive game of the season on Saturday morning.  Jane Autio pitched great in a complete game effort.

On Sunday, Vivian Straker smoked a ball to right center against a very strong NH Lightning pitcher.  10U softball plays next in Lowell on June 7, 8 and 9.

12U Softball

Aubriella Greene and Grace Frost pitched well for 12U Boomer Softball before their weekend was cut short due to rain. Ali Pimentel scored 3 runs and played great defense at shortstop. Kali Borrelli had an RBI and a run scored. Both Natalee Hamel and Blake Malvesti played well behind the plate.

14U Softball

The 14U is destined for a promising season after the  first tournament of the year this past weekend in Dracut MA. Both Anna Autio and Kiley Nunan had solid pitching on the mound with Kiley having 13 strikeouts. Maddie McQuaid had a weekend protecting the outfield with over 10 putouts. Maddie Akashian and Juliana Marion both played great behind the plate by keeping the baserunners on their toes.

The team as a whole battled at the plate with solid contact and good pitch selection. Allison Daneau, Catelyn Steen, and Juliana Marion contributed with a double each. Heads up plays highlighted the weekend including Kayla Moriarty assisted in picking off baserunners at first base and Mia Climo’s assist to home from second to keep the last game going.
