Lowell High Boys Basketball Head Coach Bob Michalczyk stepped down from the position earlier this month.

Michaelczyk, who replaced Scott Boyle on an interim basis in the Fall of 2013, led the Red Raiders program over the last 13 years, enjoying tremendous success in the process.

“Coach Bob,” as he’s commonly referred to by those around the program, amassed a record of 192-89. He walks away as the second winningest coach in program history, just 20-wins behind the legendary Charlie Ryan, who holds the top spot with 212.

“I was going back and forth about it and made the decision a couple of weeks ago,” Michalczyk tells InsideLowell. “It’s just a ton of work, and I even worked overnights at times to accommodate the schedule.”

Michalczyk starred on the Lowell High hardcourts for three years, graduating in 2000 and playing college ball at Salem State, where he was inducted into their Hall of Fame.

Asked if he has plans to continue coaching elsewhere, Michalczyk said “I am currently coaching my daughter’s AAU team, but if I’m not at Lowell, I won’t be coaching anywhere else.”

Sources tell InsideLowell a name to keep an eye on is Phil Conners, who previously served as Lowell High Coach and also held the top job in Tewksbury.
