Celtics Honor Founders of Lowell Non-Profit

After losing their dear friend Kristy Williams following an 11-year battle with cancer, Jillian Dooley and Rachel Williams were determined to transform their grief into something meaningful.

In 2022, they founded the Kristy Williams Memorial Foundation with a mission to ease the financial burden faced by families navigating cancer. Through the foundation, recipients receive flexible financial support that can be used for medical bills, daily expenses, or to create meaningful memories during an incredibly difficult time.

In honor of their efforts, Dooley and Williams were recognized as Heroes Among Us during the Boston Celtics’ home game against the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday, January 7, 2026.

A registered nurse, Kristy was diagnosed with diagnosed with a brain tumor in June of 2010 at the age of 23. Despite undergoing many aggressive rounds of radiation, chemotherapy, and surgeries over the next 12 years, Kristy approached each day with unwavering hope and positivity and used her profession to inspire others facing a similar diagnosis.

She passed away on October 31, 2021 after waging a courageous battle.

Headquartered in Lowell, the foundation created in her memory has donated more than $268,000 to 125 families, providing relief, dignity, and hope when it is needed most. Through their compassion and commitment, Dooley and Williams have ensured that Kristy’s legacy lives on through generosity and care for others.

Since its establishment in 1997 by the Boston Celtics, the Heroes Among Us program has recognized outstanding individuals who have made exceptional and lasting contributions to their communities. The award is presented at every Celtics home game and pays tribute to the heroic achievements of these outstanding citizens.
