Census Time: Make it Count!

LOWELL – The 2025 Annual City Census is coming!

The City of Lowell Election and Census Office is mailing the 2025 Annual Street Listing (commonly referred to as the “Census”) and expects it to arrive in mailboxes the week of February 24th.

It is important to complete and return the Census Form so that the residents of each household are established. Failure to complete and return the Census will cause voters to become “inactive” which can cause unneeded delays on Election Day and may ultimately result in removal from the voter’s list.

When is the Census due?

Please return the Census as soon as possible. State law dictates that the Census must be returned within ten days.

Do I have to mail the Census back?

For your convenience we enclosed a self-addressed envelope with your census for easy return if you choose to return the census by mail.

Alternatively the Census may be hand-delivered to the Elections & Census Commission in Room 5 of Lowell City Hall or through City Hall’s mail slot, which is located on the JFK plaza door.

What else is the Census used for?

The annual census ensures that the City maintains an accurate listing of residents and voters. It is also used for calculating veterans’ benefits, housing for the elderly and provides projection data for future school enrollment which allows school administrators to better plan for the future.

Additionally, the street listing is the primary tool used by municipalities to comply with requests for information from the Jury Commissioner.

Please don’t hesitate to call the Election and Census Office at (978) 674-4046 with any questions.
