Chelmsford & Dracut Police Recover Stolen Vehicle

Chelmsford Police Chief Colin Spence and Dracut Police Chief Peter Bartlett report that the Chelmsford and Dracut Police Departments collaborated early Monday morning to recover a vehicle that was stolen from a driveway in Chelmsford.

On Monday, Aug. 14, at approximately 12:50 a.m., Chelmsford Police were notified that a 2022 Ford Bronco was stolen from a residence on Old Westford Road, and that the vehicle’s owner was tracking its location and attempting to locate the vehicle on his own. The stolen vehicle was also reported to contain a backpack and two firearms.

The vehicle’s owner was able to track the vehicle to the area of Mill Street and Lakeview Avenue in Dracut. Dracut Police responded and recovered the unoccupied vehicle, as well as one of the two firearms.

Dracut Police, with assistance from multiple law enforcement partners, the Northeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council, and Massachusetts State Police Air Wing, searched the area where the vehicle was found but were unable to locate any suspects.

Dracut and Chelmsford Police are asking residents and business owners around Lakeview Avenue and Mill Street in Dracut, as well as those in the area of Old Westford Road in Chelmsford, to review home surveillance footage for suspicious activity.

The incident remains under investigation by Chelmsford Police and Dracut Police, with assistance from Massachusetts State Police. No additional information is being released at this time.
