CHELMSFORD – Chelmsford High School seniors who are planning to go into the field of teaching were recognized during the second annual Future Teachers Signing Day ceremony on Thursday, May 29.
In total, a dozen graduating seniors plan to make the foray into education; nine were present for the ceremony.
School Committee member Susan MacKinnon, a former teacher in the Chelmsford Public Schools system, praised the students for choosing education as a career path.
“It’s a great job to have, it’s lots of fun and you do good,” she told the students. “It’s also a job that brings you joy and laughter and friendships, and I think you will be really, really pleased once you get into it.”
School Committee member Maria Santos said being a teacher is one of the most honored professions in the world.
“The skills you’re going to develop are going to change lives forever,” she shared. “I am so proud that we have this pathway, and I am so proud of each one of you.”
CHS Principal Stephen Murray said he’s thrilled to see so many students at CHS choosing to go into education.
“Thank you for going into this profession; you’re going to love it,” he said. “It’s hard, but it’s definitely worth it.”
John MacIsaac, Dean of Whittier House, shared some words of wisdom and advice with this year’s future teachers.
“Go in with an open mind and have a good time with it, because you are truly going into a very rewarding field,” he said.
