CHELMSFORD – Jennifer Yu, a member of Chelmsford High School’s Class of 2025, was named the North Region Student of the Year by the Massachusetts School Administrators’ Association (MSAA) National Honor Society Committee.

On Wednesday, April 9, Yu received a commemorative plaque, which was presented to her by John Quinn, MSAA Associate Director, in the CHS Career and College Readiness Center.

Yu was honored for her numerous contributions to CHS, most notably her commitment to body positivity and eating disorder awareness. She founded the school’s Body Positive Alliance and is a National Ambassador for Eating Disorders Research, Policy and Action.

“For the past four years, my advocacy has been a very normal part of my day-to-day, so to have it recognized on this level is both surreal and exciting,” Yu said. “I’m so grateful that someone out there has read a piece of my story and felt just as excited as I am about the impact this work can have on the communities around us.”

Yu said she has thoroughly enjoyed her time and involvement with National Honor Society (NHS).

“Having the chance to work alongside my peers, many of whom I’ve known for most of my childhood life, on projects that have such a deep connection to our community is an experience I’ll never forget,” she said.

Yu said NHS advisors Katherine Doulamis and Jennifer McManus have been her biggest supporters.

“The work we do as a team could not be possible without their relentless dedication and support,” she said.

In addition to being inducted to the National Honor Society, Yu’s dedication to her studies have earned her many other accolades. She has been recognized as an AP Scholar with Honor, was awarded the President’s Volunteer Service Award twice, earned the Princeton Prize in Race Relations, and was named a Boston Certificate of Accomplishment Honoree.

Yu also serves as the captain of the CHS Debate Team and president of the Freshman Mentor Program.

Outside of school, Yu holds the position of National Vice Chairwoman of the High School Democrats of America and has interned and served as a research correspondent for the Program of Weight and Eating Research Lab at Yale University.

This fall, Yu will be attending Northeastern University, where she will be studying political science with hopes of pursuing a career in public service.
