Crash Course: Mock Event Promotes Teen Driver Safety

Traffic crashes are the third leading cause of death for Massachusetts teenagers, behind only cancer and heart disease, primarily due to inexperience behind the wheel, lack of seat belt use and risk-taking behaviors such as speeding and distracted driving.

To help raise awareness and educated the youth in our community, the Lowell Fire Department Training Division is hosting a mock crash event, Wednesday May 21, from 9am-Noon at the Tsongas Center on Arcand Drive in Lowell.

“Crash Course” will demonstrate, through a live exercise, the aftermath of a vehicle collision. The demonstration will also feature discussion on topics such as distracted driving, driving under the influence of alcohol/drugs and safety tips.

Thanks to generous support from a multitude of community donors like our friends at Wellpoint and Pridestar Trinity EMS, raffle prizes, refreshments and snacks will also be available.
