Lowell – May marks the 59th year since the Community Action Network of Community Action Agencies was established to help American families and communities overcome obstacles to poverty. Over 1000 agencies across the country, including 23 in Massachusetts, are working every day to create opportunities and transform the lives of individuals and families, making communities stronger and helping families across the country thrive. This year, Community Teamwork, Inc. (CTI), a proud member of the Community Action Network supporting, will also commemorate 58 years in service, helping families throughout Middlesex and Essex Counties.
“Each May, during Community Action Month, we reflect on the impact Community Teamwork and our network has had on families.” Said Karen Frederick, CEO of Community Teamwork. “Last year alone we served more than 56,000 people in over 71 communities and over 15 million across the country with immediate needed services such as shelter, early education, and child care, and also long-term solutions like rental assistance, education and job placement.”
Community Action Agencies serve 99% of all American Counties with life-changing services to help families achieve financial stability. All agencies, including Community Teamwork, are locally controlled and represented on the Board of Directors, by the private, public, and low-income sectors of the communities we serve. “We are proud of our communities’ participation in the development and oversight of our programs,” said Frederick. “Their engagement helps us to be more effective in our approach by determining what our communities need.”
To celebrate the continued success of Community Action and raise awareness, Community Teamwork is honoring Champions of Community Action at its annual Fundraiser to be held on Thursday, May 25th from 6-9pm at Four Oaks Country Club in Dracut.
