DeMarco Announces Retirement from Lowell Catholic in 2027

Maryellen DeMarco, who has served as Head of School at Lowell Catholic since 2003, announced her retirement today at the conclusion of the 2026-2027 school year. She revealed the news in an email to the school community this afternoon.

DeMarco also revealed that Patrick Slattery, Executive Director of the Xaverian Brothers School Network and the LC Board of Trustees, will lead the transition and selection process for the next Head of School.

“It has been my deepest honor to serve as the leader of this school for almost 25 years,” DeMarco wrote in her email. “LC has been far more than a workplace; it has been a second home to me. I have witnessed thousands of students grow and shine and I have been humbled to work alongside the most dedicated faculty and staff I have ever known.”

DeMarco has been an educator for 45-years, beginning her teaching career at St. Mary’s High School in Lawrence. Before coming to Lowell Catholic, she also taught classrooms at Arlington Catholic, Timberland Regional H.S. and Saint Monica’s School in Methuen.

“I leave with immense gratitude and pride, knowing that the spirit of LC lives on in each and every one of you and I will always cherish my place as part of the LC family,” she wrote, concluding with the emojis and words; “Forever Crusaders 💙💚”
