Doherty Ends Speculation – Not Seeking Re-Election

After nearly two decades serving on the Lowell School Committee, and after much speculation about her intentions this year, Jackie Doherty has decided not to seek re-election in the Fall.

At times emotional, Doherty made the announcement on today’s edition of the Daily Pulse, where she also looked back at her 18-years on the committee and many of the political battles and decisions along the way.

Doherty remained the same passionate advocate she’s always been and vowed to continue fighting for Lowell’s students through the end of her term in December.

Her decision means the School Committee is guaranteed at least one new face on the board when its term begins next January.

Another long-time incumbent, Connie Martin, is seeking another term, as is former SC member Bob Hoey. Danielle McFadden, President of the Greater Lowell Chamber of Commerce is also vying for one of the the two At-Large seats, as is former Elections Commissioner and State Rep Candidate, Zoe Dzineku.

If one more candidate enters the race between now and the July 22 deadline, a Preliminary election narrowing the field to four candidates will be held on September 9th. The General Election is slated for November 4th.
