Sajjad Hossain asked his real-estate agent to find a home in Dracut for him and his wife. Instead, he found him a business to buy.
Before he knew it, Sajjad, whose family owns Food Basket International on Church Street in Lowell, added Nason’s Quick Mart to his business portfolio. He and his brothers also own several markets in the Boston area.
“I had my agent looking for a house in Dracut, and he said, ‘By the way, there’s a store for sale,’” Sajjad said. “So I figured, ‘Why not?’”
Nason’s has been at its spot at 1092 Lakeview Avenue for nearly four decades, with Gil and Mary Nason starting the business. And while Sajjad appreciates the history of Nason’s, and plans to keep the name and much of what the store has done over the years, he also wants to bring some added touches.
One of those touches is the sale of beer and wine, which Sajjad hopes attracts the attention of those coming in to play the lottery or to pick up some groceries. He would also like to offer coffee and tea, both hot and iced, and there are tables to sit at and watch Keno while enjoying your coffee.

Sajjad and his wife, Umme, did end up finding an apartment in Dracut, on Skyline Drive, which they love, but they’re still looking for the right house. They were living in Milton before the move, and with his family owning the Lowell supermarket, they decided they didn’t want to live so far.
Sajjad grew up even farther away, in Bangladesh. He came to the States after graduating from high school in 2013.
“We’re loving Dracut,” he said.
Nason’s is in a plaza that also includes G&G Quick Bite, The Perfect Cup Café and Seoul Bunsik. Nason’s hours are daily, from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.
