One person is dead, and another escaped with minor injuries, during a tragic early morning accident in which a garbage truck ran over two people in a downtown Lowell alley.
A source tells InsideLowell emergency personnel were called to the area of Appleton and Middlesex Streets, between South and Pearl Streets, at around 4:45am. The accident involved a WIN Waste Innovations truck traveling down an alley that is listed as Spring Street on maps.
Indications are the driver of the truck did not see the individuals, who we are told are homeless and were reportedly sleeping in the alley. The truck remained on the scene as of 8:45am.
Lowell Police and Lowell Fire personnel responded to the scene. South and Pearl Streets are still closed off between Appleton and Middlesex as members of the LPD Detective Bureau investigate. The Medical Examiner’s Office is also on the scene.

4:45 am? Isn’t there an ordinance restricting early dumpster emptying?
Horrible tragedy , awful for the driver of the truck as well he has to live with this , it’s also a disgrace all the illegal people flooding into the communities the leaders of Massachusetts should be ashamed of themselves for encouraging these illegals to come here
