Experience May in the Mill City

Lowell – The City of Lowell is thrilled to announce a new initiative; “Experience May in the Mill City.”

Every Saturday in May, Lowellians and visitors alike can enjoy global cuisine, live music, culture, and events all within walking distance of downtown establishments.

If you are interested in taking a break from the festivities and want to enjoy music and a bite to eat, look out for the Mill City Melodies- a series of busker pop-ups at local restaurants throughout the month of May. For the full line up of the Mill City Melodies, visit likelowell.com/may.

The month-long weekend experience kicks off on Saturday, May 3rd, with live music and delicious food at downtown restaurants, and Open Studios at Western Avenue Studios and Lofts. After exploring Open Studios, take one of SUTRA Studio’s free outdoor yoga classes in the Enterprise Bank parking lot, at 2:00PM and 4:00PM. As part of the Mill City Melodies program, live musical busker performances will take place at various downtown dining establishments from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

Don’t miss out on Points of Light Cultural Celebration at Ecumenical Plaza from 5:00PM to 10:00PM and watch handmade lanterns float down the canal.

Saturday, May 10th marks the first Busker Festival in Lowell. In response to the success of the Busker Series of the last two years, the Busker Festival combines performances from all genres to offer an afternoon of entertainment for all. The afternoon boasts a variety of performers, children’s entertainment, and a market with over 20 artisans and makers. From juggling to aerialists, from pop music covers to bluegrass hits, everyone will find enjoyment at the Busker Festival. Stop by Palmer and Middle Street from 12:00pm to 5:00pm on Saturday, May 10th, to experience the fun for yourself.

May is graduation month in Lowell, and as a celebration of graduates from preschool to PhD, many restaurants and eateries will host Mill City Melodies pop ups on May 17th from 12:00-5:00PM. The City encourages new graduates and their families to enjoy live music while celebrating their achievements. A list of the Mill City Melodies is available at likelowell.com/may.

The month closes with the Memorial Day Commemoration, produced by the Lowell Veteran’s Commission. On May 31st, from 10:00AM to 6:00PM, all are welcome to gather on JFK Plaza to honor Lowell’s veterans and their families. Mayor Daniel P. Rourke expressed his excitement,  stating “we’re looking forward to welcoming everyone to experience what downtown Lowell has to offer. As the weather warms up, we encourage visitors to savor global cuisine and enjoy a variety of entertainment options throughout the month of May.”
