Lowell– The El Encuentro Film Festival, brought to you by UNITAS and in partnership with Middlesex Community College, is proud to announce its upcoming third annual event on October 4th and 5th, 2024, at The Richard and Nancy Donahue Theater, located at 240 Middlesex Street, in downtown Lowell at 7pm.
This two-night festival will provide a platform for underrepresented filmmakers whose voices and stories deserve to be heard. Each evening will feature 90 minutes of original films, all created by diverse and emerging filmmakers. These works bring forward unique perspectives, rich narratives, and authentic storytelling, offering attendees a rare opportunity to engage with films that challenge norms and spark conversations about inclusion and representation in the creative and film industry.
One of the highlights of the festival is the screening of Bailando, a story by Feliciano Segundo Jr, and a film directed by Michael Tejada and starring Arline Lora, a Lowell native.
Bailando promises to captivate audiences with its heartfelt story and stunning performances. A special Q&Asession with the director and lead actress will follow each screening, providing film enthusiasts with an intimate opportunity to engage with the filmmakers, ask questions, and explore the creative process behind the film.
“Being Dominican and a filmmaker, to me, these stories don’t often get shared on screen. I was in love with movies like “Dirty Dancing” and the “Step-Up” franchise. The world of dance in many ways brings us together. Often people fall in love through it as well.
“Bailando” is a love story about two twenty-something Dominicans who begin to fall in love through the musical genre of Bachata,” said Michael Tejada on the film.
“We are excited to bring these important voices to the community and celebrate the power of film to unite, inspire, and bring about change,” said Michelle Rivera, Festival’s producer. “El Encuentro is more than just a film festival—it’s a space for dialogue, cultural exchange, and recognition of talent that deserves a wider stage.”
Tickets are available now, and the event is open to the public for $15 and students for $10. Join in and celebrate the art of film and supporting underrepresented filmmakers at the El Encuentro Film Festival.
