With municipal election 9-months away (7-months away if a preliminary election is required), the Lowell political scene is starting to simmer.
While 2-term incumbent John Drinkwater told InsideLowell last month he’s undecided on seeking a 3rd term, a former colleague of his may be on the verge of throwing his hat into the race……on the School Committee side.
While an official announcement has not been made, Inside sources tell us Dave Conway, who served on the Council from 2018-2022, is likely to mount an at at-large campaign for the school board. Conway previously served 4-terms on the Committee from 2008-2015. The long-time educator began his teaching career at Lowell High in 1970, eventually retiring is a Housemaster (now called Assistant Principal) in 2007. He also served as Prinicpal atHellenic-American Academy from 2016-2018.
Long-time Committee members Jackie Doherty and Connie Martin currently occupy the two at large seats. Both have confirmed with IL they will indeed seek re-election as at-large members, setting up an interesting race pitting 3 people who have previously served battling over 2 available spots.
