After three years of primarily playing at UMass Lowell’s Tsongas Center, despite never actually calling themselves the Lowell Fleet, Boston’s Professional Women’s Hockey League entry has finally made the move to its desired destination, the City of Boston.
The long anticipated move was made official this morning through the team’s social media.
As we wrote in December of 2024, the PWHL has been longing for a place to call home in Beantown. They now have that in the Agganis Arena on the campus of Boston University.
“We knew it was inevitable, but we worked hard with the team to keep them here anyway,” a UMass Lowell 0fficial tells InsideLowell. “The league itself is solely focused on Boston.”
Despite the inevitability, the move will no doubt disappointed a Mill City fan base that embraced the team upon its arrival and passionately cheered them on.
The Fleet averaged 4,938 fans per game at the Tsongas Center during the 2025-2026 season, despite the fact that many of those games were held in the dead of winter and on weekday school nights.
Those attendance figures track closely to the numbers at their new home, where they skated a handful of games this past season and averaged 5,238 fans per contest.
The Fleet also played one game in Boston, shortly after the Team USA earned Gold at the 2026 Winter Olympics, drawing a sold-out crown of 17,850 at the Boston Garden.
