Those accustomed to watching their city council meetings and other municipal events on Comcast via Lowell Telemedia are going to have to do so on YouTube or in person at City Hall for the foreseeable future.
A broken pipe discovered this morning at their 246 Market Street location flooded the computer server room, knocking all three of LTC’s public access channels.
The extent of the damage is still being assessed as of press time, however Executive Director Adam McCune tells InsideLowell “I expect us to be off for a significant amount of time.”
McCune was alerted to the situation at around 8:30am Tuesday morning. Crews from the Lowell National Historic Park and Peabody Properties, who oversee the building arrived quickly and shut off the water, but not before “several inches” had flooded into the server room.
Members of LTC’s Board of Directors also arrived on scene.
Coming off a weekend lengthened by the snowstorm, the facility had been vacant for days and its unclear when exactly the pipe burst.
McCune is confident they can still broadcast government meetings from City Hall directly onto their Lowell Telemedia YouTube Channel (click here to view) while necessary repairs are made and new equipment is purchased.

McCune also says he’ll also be in communications with Comcast to see if there are any other options for broadcasting over the three public access channels in the meantime.
