There’s a motion on the agenda for next Tuesday’s city council meeting to explore using the canals to generate electricity.
I can’t confirm this yet but I am also hearing there’s a motion in the works to explore using the canals to power textile looms. I’m sure whatever faceless multi national corporation will oblige whatever Lowell wants. If you believe that, I have a Tiger Grant bridge for to sell you….
BUT these plans would kill an initiative that has been in the works for years: The Jet Ski Canals Initiative, aka Jet Ski City.
With traffic a problem in the city and parking at a premium (well…free parking..there’s plenty of spaces..people just hate paying), utilizing the canals for transportation my be their highest and best use.
Jet Ski lanes on the canals would allow citizens a fast way to work. Kids from Pawtucketville could access the centrally located high school even faster. The VeoRide folks have already expressed interest in outfitting the city with jet ski’s. Let’s not let some pipe dream of new fangled water power silliness get in the way of becoming Jet Ski City.
Local enthusiast and supporter Cali Llama said it best; “ahh…ya. ugh..ya. kiiiiiid”
I concur. I believe in Jet Ski City as much as I believe in the rights of vagrants. Don’t kill the dream!
Councilors, vote down this motion faster than a motion to cut the city budget. Treat this motion like a background Google search by the school committee during a Superintendent search process: ignore it.
Keep Jet ski city alive!
