District 8 Lowell City Councilor Erik Gitschier has announced he will not seek re-election in his Upper Highlands neighborhood and will instead mount a city-wide campaign. Gitschier made the announcement by releasing the following statement:
Here is my statement on election;
“It has been the ultimate honor to be District 8’s representative on the City Council. There is no greater feeling than knowing your neighbors, asking them for their support, and receiving their votes. The election smiles can never be explained in words.
I have been truly blessed, by not only your support, but also growing up in a district and City that has always been a major part of my life.
This election I will be seeking an at large seat on the City Council. My family and supporters understand it’s a lot of work, we understand there are many unknowns, and we understand the odds are far less than running in district 8.
My love for this City and the pride of running for an at large seat out weighs all the negatives.
In the next few weeks we will get our campaign up and running for the upcoming election season! Thank you to all of you for your support and those who push to challenge me to do better?

Based on his strong opposition to ADUs I can’t vote from him. I tend to like him otherwise.
