State Representative Tara Hong testified before the Joint Committee on Transportation yesterday to express support for Senate Bill S.3077, An Act to Enhance the Safe Use of Micromobility Devices.
The legislation was filed by Governor Maura Healey to improve safety standards for e-bikes, scooters, and other micromobility devices across Massachusetts.
“As micromobility devices become more common in our communities, it is important that our laws keep pace to ensure the safety of riders, pedestrians, drivers, and families,” said Rep. Hong. “This bill creates clearer rules, stronger accountability, and safer streets for everyone.”
Hong highlighted the growing use of micromobility devices in cities like Lowell, where many residents rely on affordable, accessible transportation to get to work, school, and local businesses.
“Many residents support micromobility, but they also want stronger safety standards and clearer expectations to protect everyone,” Hong added. “This legislation creates a balanced approach that supports transportation innovation while prioritizing public safety.”
Hong is also encouraging residents and stakeholders to express support for the Joint Committee on Transportation regarding micromobility legislation.
