Local Banker Launches City Council Campaign

Interest in November’s City Council election continues to accrue, as a local banker becomes the latest candidate to deposit his name into the race.

Sixto DeJesus, an Assistant Vice President at Enterprise Bank, formed a campaign committee with the Massachusetts Office of Campaign and Political Finance (OCPF) Monday. DeJesus’ paperwork doesn’t specify whether he’ll be running for the District 5 (South Lowell) seat in the neighborhood he lives in, or as an At-Large candidate.

When contacted, he told InsideLowell he is still in the “organizing phase” of the campaign and would share more details when ready.

DeJesus has been employed at Enterprise, which was recently purchased by Rockland Trust, since January of 2011. His LinkedIn profile lists him starting as a Branch Service Manager, eventually working his way up to Regional Business Advisor, Assistant Vice President. Prior to that, he worked at TD Bank from 2008-2011.

His Enterprise profile describes his journey as beginning in the Dominican Republic, where he studied Marketing at the Universidad Católica de Santo Domingo and worked for Banco Popular Dominicano from 2002-2006.

DeJesus has served as Board Chair at the Coalition for a Better Acre (CBA) since 2017Sixto DeJesus has been deeply involved with community service through his role as Chair of the Coalition for a Better Acre (CBA) since 2017 and has been a visible presence at non-profit events and fundraisers throughout his time in the Mill City.

If DeJesus runs for the District 5 seat, he’ll be taking on incumbent Kim Scott, and potentially others who might enter the race. Scott won the inaugural District 5 election  over Tooch Van in 2021, before beating back a challenge from Susie Chhoun in 2023.

Should he choose to run At-Large, he’ll be in a field expected to include incumbents Erik Gitschier, Rita Mercier and Vesna Nuon. Ricky Thach also filed paperwork to run citywide back in October of 2023. It’s likely more names will eventually enter the fray in that race.
