Lowell Girls Lacrosse Weekly Scoop (June 6, 2025)

Grade 1-2 team matches up on defense

Week 8 marked the end of the MYL Classic and Select seasons for Lowell Girls Lacrosse. Across all grade levels, LGL teams showed grit, teamwork, and growth.

With strong finishes and standout moments, the girls are now looking ahead to one final event, the MYL Jamboree at Fort Devens.

Grade 1/2:

The Grade 1/2 team closed out their Classic season with a loss to a strong Chelmsford squad. Despite the outcome, the girls gave it their all and found the net multiple times, even as Chelmsford’s offensive pressure proved tough to contain.

On attack, Avery Gudewich led the charge with 3 goals and 1 assist. The midfielders were active and impactful: Michaela Marshall added 2 goals and 1 assist, Eva Mojica tallied 2 goals and 1 assist, and Sophia Bedard netted an exciting goal of her own. Evelyn McManus and Lyla Curran-Benson each recorded an assist and played strong two-way games. Vivian Gilmore brought great intensity, chasing down ground balls and launching strong shots on goal.

Defensively, Kinsley Witts contributed 2 assists and continued to display great awareness, sliding to cover open marks. Harper Ronan added an assist after making a key defensive play by applying pressure, forcing a turnover, and leading a transition that resulted in a goal.

In goal, Riley Brady opened the game with several fantastic saves, while Maggie Regan stood tall in the second half, making great stops of her own.

After a successful Classic season, the team is looking forward to fun upcoming events and closing out the year at the MYL Jamboree.

Grade 3/4 White:

The 3/4 White team battled hard against a strong Andover squad and came out with a well-earned 15–13 victory. Every player gave maximum effort from start to finish, playing as a cohesive unit, which made all the difference in this exciting matchup.

Goalkeeping duties were split evenly, with Delaney Donovan recording 4 saves in the first half and Lily Brady matching that total in the second. On offense, the players showed excellent off-ball movement and teamwork. Bella Cardaci led the charge with 4 goals, while Emma Smulligan, Penny Hubert, and Delaney Donovan all played with purpose and intensity, keeping the pressure on Andover’s defense.

In the midfield, the girls led in transitions and dominated the draw battle. Addison Feeney (6 goals, 1 assist), Maggie Branco (2 goals, 2 assists), Breton Tanguay (1 goal, 1 assist), Vivian Brown (2 assists), and Brooklyn Esteves (2 goals) controlled the pace of play on both ends of the field with strong two-way performances.

Defensively, the team was an absolute force. Madison O’Hearn, Kendra Dexter, Bridget Quirbach, Grace Ninteau, Maya Underwood, and Lily Brady anchored a tenacious person-to-person defense that wore down Andover’s attack. Their controlled, smart, and relentless play led to multiple forced turnovers and proved to be a key factor in the win.

It was a total team effort and a great step forward as the season winds down!

The 3-4 Red team poses following a hard-fought victory

Grade 3/4 Red:

The Lowell Girls Youth Lacrosse 3/4 Red Team closed out their MYL Classic season with a hard-fought and exciting 15-13 victory over the Chelmsford 3/4 Black Team. The game was a showcase of teamwork, determination, and standout performances across the field.

Offensive firepower led the way as Vivian Shanley and Ellie Branco were unstoppable on the attack, each netting an impressive 6 goals. Shanley also demonstrated her playmaking skills with multiple assists, helping to keep the offense flowing. Addy Dolan added 3 goals of her own, rounding out a powerful offensive trio.

The midfield and defense held strong throughout the game. Avery Hungler made a key play by gaining possession off a Chelmsford turnover, helping shift momentum in Lowell’s favor. On defense, Ellie Jaracz, Alice Regan, and Kenzie Keo fought tenaciously to protect their goal. Alice came close to securing a critical possession, showing great hustle and awareness.

In the midfield, Emmagrace Glavine, Gisele Smith, and Audrey Hunt played pivotal roles in transitioning the ball from defense to offense, maintaining pressure and control throughout the game.

Teamwork shone across the field as Emily Kilbride, Vivian Rosenberry, and Katy Florence contributed significantly in the attack zone, chasing down ground balls and keeping the energy high. Their efforts helped sustain offensive pressure and create scoring opportunities.

In net, Keira Pollard stood tall in goal, making numerous saves that kept Lowell in the lead during crucial moments of the game.

A special shoutout to Brooke Sorbi for bringing positivity and team spirit to the sidelines. Her support and enthusiasm were felt by everyone and made a meaningful impact on the team.

As the season wraps up, the Lowell 3/4 Red Team looks ahead with excitement to the Jamboree at Fort Devens as well as the 2026 season. With talent, heart, and teamwork like this, the future is bright for these young LGL athletes.

Grade 5/6:

In a well-matched and competitive game, Lowell fell just short against Chelmsford Black with a final score of 9–7. Chelmsford came out strong early, but Lowell responded with an impressive second-half surge, showing resilience and grit throughout the game.

Maeve Marshall led the scoring with an outstanding 3-goal performance, continuing her strong offensive presence. She was joined on the scoreboard by Nora Kelly, Sam Heslin, Cate Richardson, and Maggie Wilson—who fired in a lefty shot for her goal, adding a highlight moment to the game.

Lowell’s midfield and defense were just as impactful. Nora Graham displayed impressive speed as a middie, consistently finding lanes to carry the ball upfield. Maggie Wilson was once again a force at midfield, combining speed with lockdown defense. Maeve McKiernan made a standout debut on defense, turning away several Chelmsford opportunities and proving she can play any position on the field.

Defensively, Rosalinda Goguen was a standout, winning ground balls and regaining possession, while Talia Cardia and Keira Peters applied strong pressure on their marks. Mairin Monaghan contributed an assist and came up big with two key interceptions. Erin McGovern, stepping out of net for the day, played with great speed and strength as a middie.

On the draw, Abby Smulligan made a great catch to secure possession, and Bella Bedard continued to impress with her aggressive boxing out and hustle in transition. Renee Wagner added solid passing on the attack, helping keep the offense fluid.

Goalkeeping was another strong point, with multiple saves and impressive communication anchoring the defense. Spencer Sullivan closed out her season with a strong effort on attack, finishing her season on a high note.

It was a tough loss on the scoreboard, but a hard-fought and encouraging performance by a team that continues to grow and impress. Well done, girls!

Grade 7/8:

This Sunday, Lowell U14 Girls played Chelmsford in Chelmsford. The Lowell U14 team played a great game. Isabella Sorbi and Angelina Poirier stood out on defense, driving multiple players out of the 8 meter arc. On attack, Alexa Wisdom and Peyton Kum excelling with shots and assists. On midfield, Sadie Ronan and Skylar Nwaise helped move the ball quickly down the field to score goals for Lowell.

LGL Players Shine in MYL Select League:

In addition to the Classic League games our readers have followed all season, the Mass Youth Lacrosse League also hosts a Select League for players seeking a more competitive experience. This year, LGL was proud to have several players represent Lowell in the 5/6 and 7/8 Select divisions, along with participating in an informal 3/4 Select game.

In the 5/6 division, Maeve McKiernan, Cate Richardson, Maggie Richardson, Maggie Wilson, and goaltender Erin McGovern joined forces with players from Tewksbury and Bedford to form Middlesex United—a first-time collaboration between the three towns. The team played seven regular season games and one playoff matchup, gaining valuable experience and building strong connections with teammates from across the region. The girls showed heart, hustle, and high-level lacrosse all season long.

The most inspiring moment came late in the year. After falling 12–2 to Hamilton-Wenham while shorthanded in their final regular season game, Middlesex United drew the same opponent in the playoffs. This time, the girls came out with fire and battled to a 14–12 nailbiter, staying within one goal until the final minute. Though the result didn’t go their way, the team showed incredible grit, determination, and unity, walking off the field proud of how far they’d come.

In the 7/8 division, Reese McKiernan and Skylar Nwaise teamed up with players from Bedford and Tewksbury to form the Middlesex United squad. Both girls brought unique strengths to the defensive unit and quickly integrated with their new teammates. Their positive attitudes and infectious enthusiasm consistently lifted the energy of the team.

Reese and Skylar showcased not only strong individual skills but also an impressive sense of teamwork. They communicated effectively, supported their teammates, and played key roles in Middlesex United’s success. Their growth this season has been remarkable, and we’re excited to see how they continue to develop in the seasons ahead.

In a thrilling informal Select matchup, Lowell’s 3/4 Select Team battled Chelmsford’s 3/4 Select Team in a high-energy game full of hustle and heart. Despite a narrow 13–12 loss at the whistle, the team showed incredible grit and teamwork from start to finish.

Vivian Shanley led the way with a phenomenal 7-goal performance, adding a couple of assists and dominating ground balls. Ellie Branco followed with 4 goals, and Vivian Brown added one of her own. Addison Feeney and Bella Cardaci each contributed an assist and played with relentless energy, helping to generate scoring chances. Strong offensive efforts also came from Maggie Branco, Kendra Dexter, Addison Dolan, Brooklyn Esteves, Audrey Hunt, and Breton Tanguay.

On defense, Ellie Jaracz, Kenzie Keo, Madi O’Hearn, and Maya Underwood hustled to contain Chelmsford’s attack. In goal, Keira Pollard was outstanding, racking up 16 saves and keeping Lowell in the game with her quick reflexes and fearless play.

Though the scoreboard didn’t swing in Lowell’s favor this time, the team’s effort, sportsmanship, and unity were on full display. Every player contributed to a game that was as exciting as it was competitive. The future looks bright for this talented group of athletes as they continue to grow and shine on the field.
