Lowell Lacrosse Weekly Spotlight – Week of August 10, 2025

Each week, Lowell Youth Lacrosse hosts a youth clinic for players going into Grades 1-4 that blends fundamental skills with leadership and mentorship. Led by Lowell High School student-athletes, the clinic continues to grow in both attendance and impact. This weekly column will highlight the high school players making a difference and spotlight one standout participant from the clinic.

Clinic Highlights

The heat couldn’t stop this dedicated group from experiencing the first of two UMass Lowell facilities. A huge shout out to the Campus Rec Department for allowing us to use their field. They say “ground balls win games” so the boys spent most of the session with drills competing against each other to win the ground ball. The boys spent the end of the session trying to fire a shot faster than last week’s featured player Jack. Coach Bo promised to bring back the relay race for the final session next week. All sessions end by Coach Bo breaking down a huddle of youth players squeezed between the high schoolers with a singular “LOWELL!”

Featured High School Player: TIM STEINBERG

Tim Steinberg, a Junior at Lowell High School, serves as this week’s featured player. A defender for the varsity lacrosse team, Steinberg has been part of the high school program since Freshman year.

“Timmy has done a great job being a leader since he stepped on the field. Between his effort and the ability to communicate that he brings each day, he always is making sure everyone is on the same page. Timmy does a great job building relationships with the kids in the youth program through not only teaching them at our camps; but also as part of the park and rec throughout the summer.” – Coach Bo.

Player Profile

  • Grade: Class of 2027
  • Position: Defender
  • Favorite lacrosse memory: “Having the honor of starting at LHS on varsity my Freshman year. It showed me from the jump the faith and belief that my coaches had in me, and really made me fall even more in love with the sport and the challenge.”
  • Personal goals for the season: “To better strengthen my defensive confidence, and my overall confidence as a player.”
  • Fun fact: “I have prescription glasses but don’t wear them to play.”

Clinic Player of the Week: LUCAS COX

The Clinic Player of the Week is selected based on effort, attitude and growth. This week’s honoree is 3rd Grader, Lucas Cox.

“Lucas is moving up next year to our Grade 3/4 team after a terrific 1/2 season where he showed tons of growth. Lucas is always paying attention and asking questions. Lucas follows direction well, but he also needs to know the why of what he’s being asked to do. He has been a consistent attendee at the clinics this summer and has stood out most weeks.”

What’s Next

Tuesday’s clinic will start at 5:30 PM at the UMass Lowell Cushing Field Complex on Riverside St., home of the River Hawks Men’s Lacrosse Team. The focus will be on continuing to develop the skills of the current players; and just as important introducing any newcomers to the basics of the game. All skill levels are welcome. Participants are encouraged to bring water, a stick, and appropriate footwear.
