LOWELL – Superintendent of Schools Liam Skinner is proud to announce the appointments of Dr. Derek Pinto as Assistant Superintendent for Finance and Amanda Dupont as Deputy Finance Officer.

Dr. Pinto is coming to Lowell Public Schools having most recently served as the Director of Finance and Operations for the Reading Public Schools, where he managed a $56 million budget as well as Food Services, Information Technology, and was the School Department’s point person for Facilities.

Prior to working in Reading, he was the Vice President of Finance and Administration for Lasell University in Newton and had previously served as the Vice President for Administrative Services at Laney College in Oakland, California and the Chief Business Official for the John Swett Unified School District in Contra Costa County, California.

Dr. Pinto started his career in education as an elementary school teacher in Fontana, California, before entering the administrative ranks and serving for a decade as an assistant principal and principal in California.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in Hon. Dr. Pinto was in attendance when the School Committee approved his three-year contract Wednesday night and was introduced to the committee by Superintendent Skinner.

“He is a very polished professional and articulate, with lots of experience in all aspects of schooling, including prior experience as a school principal, in school management, and leadership,” Skinner said.

Dr. Pinto told the committee he had spent the weekend visiting some schools to get familiar with the district, as well as reviewing budget documents.

“It is a pleasure to be a part of the Lowell community,” he said. “I’m really excited to join the team and to make contributions under the leadership of Superintendent Skinner.”

In addition to Dr. Pinto joining LPS as the new CFO, Amanda Dupont has been appointed Deputy CFO.

Dupont has served as Lowell Public Schools’ Internal Auditor since May 2020, where she handled all internal and state-mandated financial and operational audits, oversaw the implementation of bi-weekly payroll for more than 3,500 employees, and created and implemented standard operating procedures for various departments throughout the district among other duties.

She has been integral to the operations of the finance department in her time at Central Office, particularly during the past several months when the district did not have a CFO in place.

Prior to being named Internal Auditor, Dupont served for two years as the district’s Grants and Payroll Clerk. Prior to coming to LPS, she worked in finance in the private sector for UBS Financial Services and J.P. Morgan Private Bank.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from UMass Lowell and a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from New England College
