Lowell Sustainability Summit a Week Away

The Lowell Sustainability Council is hosting its annual Sustainability Summit on April 5, 2025 from 11am to 2pm at the Lowell Telecommunications Center. The theme of the event is “Celebrating Progress,” and all Lowell residents and community members are welcome.

The keynote speaker will be Katherine Moses, the Sustainability Director for the City of Lowell. This is the first time the event has been held since the city created the Sustainability Director position. Moses will be describing the nature of her work and celebrating the steps the City has taken toward a more sustainable future.

The event will include a panel of candidates for local office, as well as local and state elected officials. Attendees will be able to ask candidates questions in a live Q&A session. Those who have confirmed attendance include At-Large Candidate Sixto DeJesus, District 7 Candidate Jose Cervantes, District 8 Candidate Francisco Maldonado, and 17th Middlesex State Representative Vanna Howard. Other candidates are pending confirmation.

The Council will present its two Sustainable Lowell Awards to local businesses, organizations, and individuals who stand out as climate champions. Previous winners include: UMass Lowell RIST Sustainability Institute, Lowell Litter Krewe, Daley School, Ruth and Gary Potwin, Mill City Grows, and CBA Unity Place Project.

Finally, the event will end with a brainstorming session about what steps the City can take moving forward to create a more sustainable city. The conversation will be framed around the Lowell Forward Plan, discussing progress toward the goals laid out in this plan.
