LPD Leads Multi-Agency Operation Targeting Reckless Bikers

LOWELL — On June 12, 2025, the Lowell Police Department, with assistance from the Massachusetts State Police, Massachusetts State Police Air Wing, and Massachusetts Environmental Police, conducted a coordinated operation targeting the unlawful and reckless operation of motorcycles, dirt bikes, off-highway vehicles (OHVs), and mopeds on public roadways.

This targeted enforcement effort comes in response to ongoing community concerns about reckless and illegal vehicle activity endangering pedestrians, motorists, and neighborhood safety throughout the City of Lowell.

The operation yielded significant results, including:

• 5 Arrests
• 9 Criminal Summonses
• 24 Traffic Citations
• 20 Vehicles Towed

“Reckless and illegal operation of these vehicles on public streets is not only disruptive — it’s a danger to everyone in our community,” said Lowell Police Superintendent Greg Hudon. “Let this operation be a clear message: this conduct will not be tolerated. We will continue the work we do daily, as well as these types of operations, to address this serious issue to ensure our roadways remain safe and orderly for all.”

The Lowell Police Department thanks its partners from the Massachusetts State Police, including the Air Wing, and the Massachusetts Environmental Police for their assistance and commitment to public safety.

Anyone with information about the unlawful operation of these vehicles in Lowell is encouraged to contact the Lowell Police Department or submit tips anonymously through bikertips@lowellma.gov.

What about the kids on pedal bikes, stopping traffic, verbally harassing people and damaging cars (kicking, hitting, throwing objects)????????? How long before one of these punks gets killed and some poor innocent person gets blamed for the kids ignorance?!?!?

My question is….why did this take so long to happen? And why only 5 arrests? There were more than 5 bikers in this group. More like 15.

And on the issue of kids on bikes, what about kid’s bikes being abandoned on sidewalks and in parking lots? I have personally reported ½ dozen of these abandoned bikes worrying that a child has been hurt. No young boy would just leave their bike and walk away from it. What’s happening with that situation?
