Hundreds of Lowellians gathered this morning at the UMass Lowell Inn & Conference Center for The Salvation Army’s 30th Annual Christmas Castle Breakfast.
This year’s breakfast honored Lowell Mayor Sokhary Chau, who is the first Cambodian American Mayor in the country.
City Councilor Danny Rourke emceed the event throwing some (light-hearted?) jabs at Mayor Chau and his roastees as well as a few others in the crowd. The distinguished panel of roasters were Congresswoman Lori Trahan, City Councilor and former Mayor John Leahy, and Lowell City Manager Tom Golden. The panel produced many laughs, but ultimately, the common theme was how difficult the Mayor is to roast because he’s truly such a kind and generous person, as well as a family man.
The breakfast closed with a funny, yet heartfelt speech from Mayor Chau about why it is so important to support The Salvation Army this holiday season.
