Unless you have some action through a gambling app, or have a particular golfer you absolutely love, the player to keep an eye on as The Masters golf tournament plays out is Patton Kizzire.
Why, you might ask, should you care about a relatively obscure golfer born in Montgomery, Alabama?
The answer lies in the caddie carrying Kizzire’s clubs over Augusta National Golf Club’s 18-holes; none other than Lowell’s Dean Emerson.
Emerson, who InsideLowell profiled on a Can I Be Frank? podcast in February of 2023, has been a professional caddie since 2019 and was with Kizzire when he won the PGA’s Procore Championship in September of 2024. It was the first time the Belvidere resident has toted the clubs for a PGA Tour winner.
Kizzire has played in The Masters on two other occasions, missing the cut in 2018 and finishing tied for 18th in 2019.
He’ll have to do some work to survive the cut this year, after carding a 7-over par 79 in today’s opening round. At press time, the projected cut is +3.
Perhaps Emerson will be able to find a little magic in the clubs during tomorrow’s second round, giving us even more reason to tune into golf’s most prestigious tournament Saturday and Sunday.

He previously caddied for Davis Thompson, who is more likely to survive the cut.
Looks like Chancer McPatrick and Patton Kizzire both got the “Panos bump” this week!
As far as golf’s major championships, it was the 1977 PGA Championship when Lowell native, and former City golf champion, Tom McGuirk played at Pebble Beach. Was this the only time a Lowell native competed in one of the majors?
