Molly Smith, the trailblazing local golfer, made history at Andover Country Club yesterday, becoming the first woman to qualify for the Massachusetts Amateur Championship in the tournement’s 115-year History.
Smith carded a 1-over Par (73) to finish tied for second place among the seven golfers who qualified. Smith will compete with the men for the title July 10-14 at the Essex Country Club, located in Manchester by the Sea.
Leaving very little time to celebrate her groundbreaking accomplishment, Smith teed off at the Duxbury Yacht Club as she attempts to qualify for the U.S. Women’s Open.
