Munroe to Lead Pawtucketville Memorial School

LOWELL – Interim Superintendent Liam Skinner is proud to announce Michael Munroe has been named principal of the Pawtucketville Memorial Elementary School.

Munroe has served as the assistant principal of the Frances T. Bresnahan Elementary School in Newburyport since 2021. He began his career as an Americorps Member at the K-8 Donald McKay School in East Boston in 2003, where he had such a rewarding experience that he then taught there from 2004-2013 and served as Assistant Principal/Director of Operations from 2013-2019.  At the McKay, he led the transformation of the school from the bottom 6th percentile of schools in the Commonwealth to achieving Level 1 status, being designated a Commissioner’s Commendation School by the state’s Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, and winning the $100,000 Thomas Payzant School on the Move Prize from EdVestors.

He prides himself on his collaborative nature and creating a school culture that supports teachers and students to achieve to their highest potential.

Munroe, who was once a nominee for Boston Teacher of the Year, holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Springfield College and a Master’s Degree from the University of Miami (Florida).

A Haverhill native, he lives in his hometown with his wife Courtney and twin 10-year-old sons Charlie and Joey.

Munroe takes the reins from Mathew McLean, who crossed the river earlier this month to become the principal of the Bartlett Community Partnership School.
