Omer F. Gendron

LOWELL – Omer Francis Gendron, age 76, a lifelong resident of Lowell died peacefully at his home on Wednesday, August 2, 2023 following a courageous battle with ALS.  He was the beloved husband of Linda A. (LaRochelle) Gendron, to whom he was married for 55 years.

He was born in Lowell on November 22, 1946, and was a son of the late Clement A. and Eva Marie (Chartier) Gendron.  He received his education in Lowell schools and was a graduate of Lowell High School, class of 1964.  He earned his Associate Degree in Accounting from the University of Lowell.

Omer proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War.

Prior to his retirement, he was an accountant for many years at various businesses throughout the area.

Omer was a longtime communicant of the former Sacred Heart Church in Lowell.

He was an avid golfer and loved model trains.  He enjoyed playing the guitar with his nephew Bob, working out, and listening to music, particularly John Denver.    He also enjoyed traveling and camping with his wife and family, and reading about American history, especially books about the founding fathers.  His greatest joy however, was spending time in the company of his loving family, especially his adoring grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, Omer is survived by his three daughters and sons-in-law, Jennifer A. and Timothy Wilson of Tyngsboro, Amy Eva and Michael Hudzik of Hollis, NH and Rebecca M. and Felix DeLaRosa of Pelham, NH; nine grandchildren, Taylor Gendron and his partner Katey Rossi, Sadie Hudzik, Teagan Hudzik, Hunter Hudzik, Timothy J. Wilson, Jr., Jack Omer Wilson, Grace DeLaRosa, Felix DeLaRosa, III and Ruby DeLaRosa; two great grandchildren, Oliver Gendron and Theodore Gendron; a brother, Francis Gendron and his wife Joan of Dracut; a sister-in-law, Brenda Garabedian and her husband George of Lowell; a brother-in-law, John LaRochelle of Salem, NH; and several nieces and nephews.

He was also the brother of the late Leo Gendron and Doris Durand.

Omer’s family would like to thank the Drs and staff of Jamaica Plain VA Medical Center and Massachusetts General Hospital for helping Omer and them navigate through this terrible disease.  They would also like the thank their neighbors, the Laughlins, the Cassidys and the Hallorans for their kindness and support these last few years.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Omer’s Life Celebration at the MCKENNA-OUELLETTE FUNERAL HOME, 327 Hildreth Street, Lowell on Monday from 4:00 until 7:00pm.  His Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday at 10:00am at the funeral home followed by burial in St. Joseph Cemetery in Chelmsford.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Omer’s memory to the ALS Association Massachusetts Chapter,
