Pauline Rose Jean

DRACUT – Pauline Rose (Belanger) Jean, age 84, a longtime resident of Dracut died Thursday, September 21, 2023 at Penacook Place in Haverhill following a long battle with dementia.  She was the beloved wife of Albert “Leon” Jean, to whom she was married for 64 years.

She was born in Lowell on May 24, 1939, and was a daughter of the late Eugene Belanger and Rita (Audy) (Belanger) (Guilbeault) Mercier.  Her elementary years were spent at St. Theresa and St. Louis in Lowell and finished her college years with a Bachelor’s Degree with a dual major in Elementary and Special Education from Rivier University in Nashua, NH.

Prior to her retirement, Pauline was employed for many years as a special education teacher at the Rogers School in Lowell.  She was a tireless advocate for children with special needs.

Her Catholic upbringing and faith was apparent in the way she unconditionally loved and accepted everyone.  She had a deep devotion, especially the Blessed Mother and was a parishioner of St. Francis Parish in Dracut, where she served in the Funeral Ministry.    

Pauline never missed a chance to socialize with others, especially attending parties and spending time in the company of her loving family and friends.  She also enjoyed spending time at Ogunquit Beach in Maine.    

Her family would like to extend their deepest thanks to the staff of Penacook Place, Unit 2 South, Chaplain Judy Riopelle, Madeleine and Clyde Enzian of Dracut and Cecile Provencher of Dracut for all of their compassion and care and for making her last days on earth happy and peaceful.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her two daughters, Therese P. “Terry” (Landry) Blanchette and her fiancè Paul Rousseau of Dracut and Michelle D. Jean and her companion Jim Coleman of Boxford; four granddaughters, Nikki-Lee Sommons and her fiancè Daniel Starkey of Lowell, Sarah Blanchette and her fiancè Daniel Cooke of Merrimack, NH, Rachel Blanchette and her partner Justin Freedman of Lawrence and Hannah Coleman of Boxford; two great grandchildren, Kylie and Joshua Cooke of Merrimack, NH; a brother, Robert Belanger and his wife Claire of Dracut and many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

She was also the sister of the late Gloria Fedin and Normand Belanger.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Pauline’s Life Celebration at the MCKENNA-OUELLETTE FUNERAL HOME, 327 Hildreth Street on Monday from 4:00 until 7:00pm.  Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:00am at St. Francis Church in Dracut. Burial in St. Joseph Cemetery in Chelmsford.
