Parade route from Tsongas Arena to JFK Plaza, City Hall, Lowell, MA
Lowell — The City of Lowell will host its first Opening Day Parade for the newly unified Lowell Youth Baseball and Softball League (LYBSL) in conjunction with an Earth Day Cleanup on Saturday, April 22, 2023, in Downtown Lowell.
The Opening Day Parade will begin at 12:00PM, noon, at the Tsongas Arena, and will culminate with festivities at JFK Plaza at City Hall. The parade will feature LYBSL member leagues: Centralville, Highlands/Callery, Pawtucketville Youth Organization (PYO), Shedd Park, and Greater Lowell Senior League Baseball (GLSBL); as well as the Roberto Clemente Youth League. The Lowell Youth Baseball and Softball League is in association with Cal Ripken Baseball, a division of Babe Ruth League, Inc. The celebration on JFK Plaza will include games, food and activities on the Plaza and all are welcome to attend!
Lowell’s City Manager, Thomas A. Golden, Jr. remarks, “Opening Day is a highly-anticipated time for the young baseball and softball players in Lowell. This year it is even that much more exciting with the unification of the city league. We are looking forward to the Opening Day parade here at City Hall.”
Ryan Rourke, President of the LYBSL, has this to say about the importance of a unified league, “The overall goal of this league is to build upon the long-standing traditions of our founding leagues and bring a first-class recreational athletic experience to the City of Lowell.”
The Opening Day Parade will be escorted by two Lowell Police Department Cruisers. The parade will also feature participation from Lowell Fire Department’s Engine #1, Lowell DPW vehicles and Smash My Trash, a dumpster compacting company designed to reduce hauling emissions.
As part of the activities offered on the plaza, local organizations will host tables which will include informational flyers, giveaways, as well as various fun activities. Partners include Eco-Friendly Home Services, Lowell Litter Krewe, Lowell Transitional Living Center, Lowell Youth Baseball and Softball League (still accepting registration!), Get Out Alive Podcast, Michelle Larned Homes, New England Interstate Water Pollution Control Commission (NEIWPCC), Greater Lowell Chamber of Commerce, City of Lowell Energy Efficiency Program, the City of Lowell Recycling Department, City of Lowell Neighborhood Planning (urban forestry), Neeeco, LLC (a Mass Save partner), and Buff City Soap.
Food will be provided by Dylan and Pete’s Ice Cream, Mira Ve Food Truck and Benny’s Backyard BBQ.
Prior to the parade, all are welcome to join the Greater Lowell Chamber of Commerce, Eco-Friendly Home Services, Lowell Litter Krewe, Lowell Parks and Conservation Trust, the National Park Service and Lowell Canalwaters Cleaners and many partners throughout the City for an Earth Day Clean Up along the parade route. Registration will begin at 8:30AM, at Mack Plaza, 29 Shattuck Street, Lowell. Bring new socks or underwear to registrations as a donation to the Lowell Transitional Living Center, and be entered into a raffle at 1:00PM.
