LOWELL – A new project is bringing together multiple parcels of land, including the property adjacent to the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Lowell, to create a modern bank branch and community hub at the entrance to Lowell’s vibrant Cambodia Town neighborhood.
Workers Credit Union (WCU) is building a full-service community banking center on Middlesex Street in Lowell, representing a significant investment in the city, individuals, and businesses that make up the Greater Lowell community.
“Workers Credit Union is making a long term commitment to Lowell,” said Mike Dubuque, Chief of Growth Initiatives at Workers Credit Union. “This new branch is about planting deeper roots and showing up for our members, our neighbors, local businesses, and the community organizations that make this city great.”
Dubuque grew up in Lowell, has spent most of his career as a vital part of the Lowell business community, and serves on several local non-profit boards.
The project will see WCU demolish a vacant annex building that sits on the property of the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Lowell in support of their $25-million “Believe and Become” campaign to renovate and expand their facility into a state of the art building with the goal of serving twice as many youth. The project has brought city, state, and private funding together to strengthen one of Lowell’s most storied communities.
“This collaboration with Workers Credit Union shows the power of partnerships to benefit whole communities,” said Joe Hungler, Executive Director of the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Lowell. “Workers’ investment is part of a group effort that will support both Lowell youth and the broader community for years to come.”
The new community banking center is expected to open in 2027. More details about the project, including design plans and timeline updates, will be shared as the project advances.
