InsideLowell has learned that Somong Rattanayong, the wife of Lowell Mayor Sokhary Chau, has joined the District Office of Congresswoman Lori Trahan.
Rattanayong, who had been a Legislative Aide and Constituent Services Coordinator for State Representative Rady Mom since 2015, started in her new position this morning as Head of Constituent Services for the Congresswoman’s district office located here in Lowell. Prior to that, she worked in Business Development at the Career Center in Lowell. No word yet on who is replacing Rattanayong in State Representative Mom’s office.
“I couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome Somong Rattanayong as Director of Constituent Services in my Lowell office,” Trahan tells InsideLowell. “Somong has over 20 years of experience supporting families in Lowell and across the region, and I look forward to seeing her apply those skills in every one of the 35 communities we serve.”
In other news from Congresswoman Trahan’s office, Maria Syrniotis, previously Senior Advisor in Lowell has been promoted to District Director. She replaces Sara Khun Leng, who left to work for UMass Lowell.
“Maria Syrniotis has been a tremendous asset to our team and to the Third District over the past year, spearheading our efforts to engage and support city and town governments on critical funding opportunities that will impact families across the region,” the Congresswoman said. “With decades of experience at the local, state, and federal levels, I’m excited that she’s stepping into this new role leading our district strategy and operations.”
Trahan also thanked Khun Leng for her contributions, adding “I’m deeply grateful to Sara Khun Leng for her service to Lowell and the Third District over the last two decades. I’ve had the opportunity to work alongside Sara as a staffer, watch her thrive at the Lowell Police Department, and benefit greatly from her commitment to our district in my office. Our entire team wishes her and her family nothing but the best in her next chapter at UMass Lowell.”
