Lowell – The City of Lowell is thrilled to announce the return of the Spring Busker Festival on Saturday, May 9, from 12:00PM – 5:00PM on Palmer Street and Middle Street.
The festival is a celebration of music, art, and Lowell’s vibrant performer community.
A “busker” is a street performer — musicians, dancers, magicians, and other artists who perform in public spaces, bringing energy and creativity directly to the streets.
At the Spring Busker Festival, Lowell celebrates this tradition with live performances across several pop-up performance spots, filling the streets with music, movement, and excitement. In addition to live music, attendees will find local artisan vendors, food trucks, and performers to capture the attention of all ages.
Watch as Mill City Circus shows off aerialist stunts, and delight in Cirque de Light’s ever-popular performances throughout the afternoon. As you walk through cobblestone streets, listen to local musicians of all genres, and browse artisan vendors.
The Spring Busker Festival has fun for the littlest Lowellians, including face painting by Refuge Lowell, children’s games facilitated by the Recreation Department, and a living statue performance by A Silent Soapbox.
“The Spring Busker Festival reflects what makes Lowell special – accessible, creative, and welcoming to all,” said Mayor Erik R. Gitschier. “By bringing performances into shared public spaces, we’re creating opportunities for everyone to experience the arts and ensuring our downtown remains active and open to the entire community.”
This annual festival also coincides with Doors Open Lowell, an insider’s look into Lowell’s magnificent historical buildings. Explore participating buildings from 10:00AM – 4:00PM on Saturday, May 9.
“This festival is a powerful example of how arts and culture drive economic activity in our downtown,” said City Manager Thomas A. Golden, Jr. “With the Spring Busker Festival and Doors Open Lowell happening on the same day, there are so many opportunities for residents and visitors to explore our city, support local businesses, and experience everything Lowell has to offer.”
Live performances will continue throughout the month May at local businesses as part of the Spring Busker Series, bringing music directly into downtown eateries and storefronts.
As Lowell celebrates its Bicentennial year, there are even more ways for the community to take part and support local businesses.
