LOWELL – Alternative House is proud to announce the inaugural Healing Steps 5K/10K Walk/Run, scheduled for June 2, 2024, to support survivors of domestic violence.
Runners and walkers will set out at 8 a.m. from LASA Foundation, previously the Elks, at 40 Old Ferry Rd., Lowell, Mass.
Domestic violence affects thousands of people in the Merrimack Valley every year. Alternative House served close to 2,000 people in 2023. The Healing Steps 5K/10K will raise awareness and funds to support survivors on their journeys to healing and empowerment.
Alternative House invites participants of all ages and fitness levels to join in. Whether you walk, jog, or run, you will contribute to a vital cause — spreading awareness and showing solidarity with survivors of domestic violence.
“We are excited to launch the Healing Steps as a symbol of hope and resilience, building on the tradition of our Thanks 4 Giving race” said Maria Crooker-Capone, Executive Director at Alternative House. “This new annual event will not only raise critical funds but also foster a sense of community support for survivors and emphasize the importance of breaking the cycle of domestic violence. We thank the LASA Foundation for opening its doors to Alternative House.”
Funds raised through registration fees, sponsorships, and donations will directly benefit Alternative House’s programs and services. Participants will provide essential support, including shelter, counseling, legal assistance, advocacy, visitation, and educational resources.
The importance of supporting survivors of domestic violence cannot be overstated. Domestic violence affects individuals and families in profound ways, causing physical and emotional harm that can have lasting effects. By participating in events like the Healing Steps, our community comes together to raise awareness and show solidarity with survivors.
The family-friendly nature of the race is key to its success. It sends a powerful message that everyone, regardless of age or ability, can play a role in supporting survivors and working toward a future free from domestic violence.
The Alternative House family extends its gratitude to the sponsors, volunteers, and participants whose generosity and commitment make events like the Healing Steps possible.
“Every day, I am inspired by the staff and volunteers at Alternative House who work diligently to make sure that survivors and their children are empowered,” said Steve Murthey, President of the Alternative House Board of Directors. “We walk and we run to show survivors that, in the Greater Lowell community, they are not alone.”
Join Alternative House on June 2, 2024, for the Healing Steps 5K/10K Race/Walk and take a stand against domestic violence. Together, we can create a community where survivors are empowered, because there’s no excuse for abuse.
