18th Now a 3-Way Race

Just two days after Tara Hong declared his candidacy for 18th Middlesex State Representative, InsideLowell has learned that a new name has entered the race.

Westford Street resident and political newcomer, Andrew Kollar, filed paperwork with the Office of Campaign and Political Finance yesterday and has set about the task of gathering the 150-signatures required to get on the Democratic ballot.

“This campaign is about fostering a sustainable, pragmatic future for Lowell through investment in infrastructure, affordable housing, zoning reform, and renewable energy,” Kollar replied when asked for comment about his canidacty. “As a Registered Architect with experience serving on committees at the Federal, State, and Local levels, I am prepared to translate those leadership and teambuilding skills toward Public Service in this new capacity. This Community deserves a strong voice on Beacon Hill, and a ready ear to listen to their challenges. “

Kollar’s LinkedIn profile lists him as the Principal of Fused Studios, an architectural firm in Lowell focusing on the interrelationship of historic preservation, sustainable design, and resilient building. He is a graduate of Philadelphia University and also attended American University in Rome to study Architecture and Art History.

Kollar was also appointed to Lowell’s Sustainability Council in March of 2017 by then City Manager Kevin Murphy, serving through July of 2019.

He has also served as a Volunteer and Building Consultant for Habitat for Humanity of Greater Lowell since 2016.
