After two months of consideration, it appears former City Councilor Corey Belanger is ready to take another bite at the election apple.
Massachusetts Office of Campaign & Political Finance (OCPF) records show the Belvidere resident filed paperwork organizing a campaign committee this morning, the first step in the process.
Belanger, who has not yet returned calls for comment, served two terms on the Council under the old format from 2014-2017. InsideLowell reported back in February he was considering a run for an at-large seat. The field of declared candidates for the three city-wide seats currently includes incumbent ticket-toppers Rita Mercier and Vesna Nuon, as well as District 8 (Upper Highliands) incumbent Erik Gitschier, who announced his intentions to run at-large March 23rd.
Former Councilor Bill Samaras is also mulling a run, though sources close to the former Mayor indicate that as of today, he’s yet to come to a definitive decision one way or the other.
