CHELMSFORD — Cops for Kids with Cancer (CFKWC) and Chelmsford Police were proud to stand with 6-year-old Tyler Bolger and his family as they presented the family with $5,500 to support their ongoing battle with cancer.

Tyler, a student at Byam Elementary School, was diagnosed with B-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia on Jan. 10. He is currently receiving treatment at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Boston Children’s Hospital.

On Wednesday, May 13, Tyler celebrated an important milestone and returned to school.

On the same day, he also got to visit the Chelmsford Police Department, where he got a tour of the station and got to meet K9 Ozzie. He was joined by his father Matt, mother Jenn, and sisters Reese and Reagan.

During the tour of the station, CFKWC and Chelmsford Police also presented the family with $5,500 to support them.

CFKWC is a non-profit organization that works with local law enforcement agencies to provide funds to families across New England who have children battling cancer.

While many organizations support cancer research, funds from CFKWC are not designated for any specific purpose. Families are welcome to use the funds to defray medical expenses, or to help with the day-to-day costs that lengthy hospital stays and frequent visits incur.

Officers and supervisors from Chelmsford Police met with Tyler and his family, as did CFKWC Board Members Deputy Chief Gary Hannagan of the Chelmsford Police Department and Deputy Chief Andrew Booth of the Carlisle Police Department.

“Seeing Tyler return to school today after everything he has endured is nothing short of remarkable,” said Deputy Chief Hannagan. “The Bolger family has shown incredible strength throughout this journey, and we hope today’s support reminds them that this community stands firmly beside them every step of the way.”

Deputy Chief Booth added, “One of the most rewarding parts of being involved with Cops for Kids with Cancer is witnessing the compassion and generosity that communities show families in need. Tyler’s smile today said it all, and we are proud to provide support during such a challenging time.”

Anyone aware of a local family with a child diagnosed with cancer who may benefit from support is encouraged to contact Deputy Chief Hannagan at: ghannagan@chelmsfordma.gov.
